Some frequently asked questions . . .
This information is intended to anticipate some of the initial questions most commonly asked about marriage at St Paul's:
Do I have to be an Anglican?
To be married in the Anglican Church, at least one of the partners must be a Christian--someone who has welcomed Christ into
his or her life and is seeking to live in obedience to him in the fellowship of the church. Thus, even if you were raised in a denomination other than the Anglican Church, you may still be married at St Paul's
with an Anglican wedding rite.
Do
we have to be parishioners to be married at St. Paul's?
Weddings at St. Paul's
are for members of this worshipping community. We invite you to participate in
worship with us! Please click on the links to "Worship
Services" or "Getting
Connected" for more information, or contact us. Our doors are wide
open to people from all backgrounds who wish to join us on our faith journey of
following Jesus Christ.
What if one of us is divorced?
Divorced people may be remarried in the Anglican Church, but approval must be received from the diocesan matrimonial commission before the wedding may proceed. This process (which usually takes about three months) is intended to help you in your relationship together and to ensure that your new marriage will be secure and lasting.
When should I contact the church?
The minimum required notice is sixty days. However at St Paul's we expect all couples to take part in a marriage preparation programme (usually held in mid-spring) before making their marriage vows.
The Marriage Preparation programme is offered through the Anglican Diocese of
Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and is designed to help you explore the following areas:
- roles and expectations in marriage
- communication and conflict management
- legal aspects of marriage
- financial planning for couples
- marriage spirituality
- planning your wedding service
