Coming to the Lord's Table
Visiting? New to St Paul's? We gladly welcome all of God's people to the Lord's Table. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and have been baptized, and are accustomed to receiving the bread and wine of the eucharist in your own church, we hope that you will share them with us.
It is the practice of the Anglican Communion to use a common cup. At St Paul's,
communicants are welcome to drink from the cup. Non-communicants may also come forward at the time of Communion and receive a blessing in the form of a short prayer.
Amongst the members of our parish, the traditional pattern has been that children be confirmed before receiving Communion. However, as we are a diverse community with people from various backgrounds and regions we do have some very young children also receiving Communion because they were accustomed to it in a previous location.
A NOTE REGARDING THE PRACTICE OF "INTINCTION"
(dipping the bread into the wine):
The common cup
at holy communion is a cherished tradition in the Anglican Church and is
perfectly safe as long as basic precautions are taken. At St Paul’s those
administering the bread and wine are washing their hands with an antiseptic
cleanser and the chalice is carefully wiped after each communicant has
received. We ask communicants not
to dip the bread into the wine as this undermines our efforts to prevent the
spread of disease. Thank you!
